Abstract

In the early 1980s, when I was first introduced to Canadian poetry, and was trying to make sense of the varying trajectories, aesthetic and historic threads, I became increasingly drawn to bill bissett and the power and intensity that he was tapping into through language. Each performance was a fearless linguistic journey Through the rhythmic insistence of his shamanistic chanting, he was uncannily able to magically transport everyone in a room. Since that time, I have had the great luxury of getting to know him, and, for over twenty years, we have performed together all over the world. We have dwelt inside a shared language of desire and, through our ongoing dialogue, continue to explore how language explodes into life. What follows is part of a decades-long poetic friendship.
