Abstract

In this work, we present an investigation of the process of photonic hook generation using mesoscale finite-size graded-index elliptical particle under illumination of limited space. The combination of illuminating beamwidth and polarization allows efficient beam shaping and directionality control of photonic hook. The switching of photonic hook is achieved by changing the graded-index of the elliptical particle with index grading type parameter g. The finite-different time-domain simulations demonstrate that the long photonic hook could be obtained by low g, whereas the narrow photonic hook could be obtained by high g. Moreover, the bending direction of photonic hook could be controlled by the polarization state of incident beam. The adjustable graded-index and illumination of the elliptical particle open up a route for simple and versatile control of photonic hook generation.
