Abstract

Safety culture is deep rooted, but unspoken safety-related belief, attitudes, moral values that interact with company system, work practices, and individuals to set up rules in a company. It has a proactive approach, whereas safety climate is the management and construction worker perception that how well the safety policies and practices are met in real time (climate). Though the safety culture and safety climate overlap each other on various points, safety climate shows perception gap in existing safety culture. The conduct that construction worker performs in their everyday activity at construction site can have an immediate and quick effect on health and safety as indicated by Heinrich triangle (Heinrich), 88% are dangerous (unsafe) conduct, 10% are hazardous conditions, and 2% are inescapable as construction worker conduct is the most important thing that should be taken into consideration as 88% of unsafe act is done due to either negligence or improper knowledge which is reflected by their conduct. The construction workers are surrounded by employer, supervisor, and workmates; they can change or shape the conduct of construction worker or vice versa, but this relationship is not that effective in construction industries due to its increasing fatalities, so ‘psychological contract of safety’ (PCS), could be a positive key constituent to promote effective bi-directional communication toward construction worker in shaping their conduct, and this also lists out the factor effecting the conduct of construction worker and immediate surroundings. PCS will narrow the gap of communication between construction workers and their surrounding environment; this will reduce the unsafe practices at construction site.
