Abstract

The shaping of a rectangular welded sheet assembly by pressurized gas is investigated by finite-element modeling. It is found that, in the formation of a cylindrical dome, the width of the assembly decreases at first and then, after reaching the shell diameter, begins to increase. In other words, the cylindrical shell is deformed practically without thinning.
