Abstract
Despite eight millennia of evolution, there is still a lot to learn about successful cities, but this review sees a radical future for them. Transport in particular will feature heavily in the transformation of cities to address the emerging low-carbon paradigm that tomorrow’s healthy, wealthy communities must embrace. Transport infrastructure will need a revolution, and the evidence is that both governments and practitioners are getting ready for this challenge.
