Abstract
A load cell is most significant part of inertial parameter which has a single goal that is to measure a load. This is an invention from the mid-18th century and remains very popular today. So, its optimization is an effective way for obtaining the peak signal from the cell. Current research work deals with shape optimization of ’Washer’ type strain gauge based load cell used in the weighing application with maximizing stress sustaining capacity by minimizing its volume. So, to achieve this, CATIA V5 R19 and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) ANSYS 14.5 software’s are used for 3D modelling and structural analysis respectively. The Grey Relational Analysis (GRA) method along with Taguchi has been implemented for multi-objective optimization. For this purpose and the Design of Experiments (DOE) is carried out by using Minitab software tool. From these experiments, the set of optimum parameters are predicted and the optimal combination of experiments are developed with help of GRA. After getting the combination of parameters the influence of each parameter is checked. The performance characteristic depends on these parameters. The effects of theses parameters can be investigated using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA).
