Abstract

The shape memory behavior of Ti50Zr50 and Ti70Zr30 alloys has been investigated, associated with the microstructure and phase transformation analyses. Both Ti–Zr alloys are composed of single twinned and self-accommodated martensites in hexagonal structure at room temperature. A reversible martensitic transformation occurs in Ti50Zr50 and Ti70Zr30 alloys, and the martensitic transformation start temperatures are as high as 813 and 913 K, respectively. In comparison with Ti50Zr50, Ti70Zr30 alloy exhibits a higher shape memory strain of 1.4% and a better plasticity.
