Abstract

In this paper, BiIn nanocrystals were prepared directly from bulk BiIn alloy through solution dispersion. The shape of BiIn nanocrystals could be efficiently controlled by changing the weight ratio between poly(vinyl pyrrolidone) (PVP, M = 30,000) and BiIn alloy. The BiIn nanocrystals were characterized by transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and differential thermal analysis and thermogravimetry (DTA/TG). In addition, the tribological properties of BiIn alloy nanocrystals as an additive in lubricating oil were evaluated on a four-ball tester. And the results reveal that the BiIn alloy nanocrystals have excellent antiwear properties in wear.
