Abstract

In the recent decades the importance of the information systems (IS) has been steadily growing. Nowadays most of the operations that imply complex manipulations with data and storage of large volumes of data are being automated through the use of various IS. One of the areas where the use of an integrated IS can be considered as a must is medicine. There are many different types of systems that may be used in modern hospitals; these include accounting IS, nutrition IS etc. But at the heart of all the Medical Information Systems lies Electronical Medical Records (EMR) systems that store and process data about patients. However, there is no complete EMR that has been developed specifically for the needs of Uzbekistan’s healthcare industry. This research is focused on creating a solid theoretical base and initial implementation for an Electronic Medical Records System – SHAMAN, intended for target department in a large Tashkent hospital. This might become a first step in the development of complete EMR systems for Uzbekistan’s healthcare industry.
