Abstract
Canada's Thordon Bearings Inc has developed a low maintenance water-lubricated shaft seal. It incorporates a low-friction sealing ring which, says the company, is better suited to both variable and deeper draught vessel conditions. In addition, its design has an emergency feature that enables a vessel to return to the nearest port safely if the main seal on its propeller shaft is damaged.
