Abstract

The use of the LCD panel as a shadow moire grating has been proposed and demonstrated. The grating pitch as well as the width of the bright and dark lines can be readily altered to suit the particular application. Digital recording of the shadow moire fringes enables improving fringe contrast by filtering and subsequent elimination of grating lines. Since the LCD panel was not expressly made for shadow moire use, the angle of light incidence had to be less than 40 deg or visibility of fringes is poor. Also, the glass sheets on either side can degrade contrast. In this experiment one of the glass panels was removed but the other could not be easily eliminated.
