Abstract

The variations in energy losses due to shading of adjacent parabolic collectors are evaluated for square arrays. Previous work on thermochemical energy transmission costs in such arrays is used in conjunction with the shading calculations to evaluate the optimum collector spacing. The minor costs of the links for both communication and supplying power to the collectors for tracking are considered. The efforts of varying the pipe cost in the optimization procedure are discussed. (SPH)
