Abstract
Abstract In this commentary I discuss two federal legislative initiatives that exemplify the importance of sexuality in debates about public policy. I first describe an attempt by former Congressman Robert Dornan to force HIV-infected personnel from the armed service. Then, 1 discuss the so-called “Defense of Marriage” Act. Based on my experience as a Senior Congressional Fellow working in the U. S. Senate, I also discuss the importance of research findings in the development of sound public policy and how sexologists can become “players” in this process.
