Abstract
This article presents an historical review and a synopsis of current views of psychosexual development from birth through the third year of life. Theoretic positions and clinical data from infant observational research pertaining to oral, anal, urinary, and early genital erotism are described. Behavioral illustrations are used to clarify the theoretic propositions and clinical conclusions.
