Abstract

In this work, we use some theories that are approached in the texts Mulheres pobres e violencia no Brasil urbano (2004), by Rachel Soihet, A dominacao masculina (2003), by Pierre Bourdieu, and O segundo sexo (1970), by Simone de Beauvoir, for the purpose of understand the relationship between sexual freedom and repression of female sexuality – a duality that appears in the short stories “Pai Nosso” and “Redencao”, by brazilian writer Henriette Effenberger. With this, we intend to reflect about the prohibitions imposed by the Christian religions on the woman’s sexual pleasure, based on the literary representation of such restriction.
