Abstract
In this symposium, we aim to capture the cultural systems and power dynamics underlying discussions around sexual harassment in various societal contexts. We adopt a feminist standpoint situating sexual harassment within broader patterns of discrimination, power, and privilege, linking harassment to sex- based inequality. We hope that this symposium will bring together global voices adding to the research on sexual harassment that has tended to be rooted largely in the western literature. Recent discussions around sexual harassment suggest that current conceptualizations may not necessarily fare well across space and place and therefore call for more documentation of indigenous and endogenous reflections from within local contexts from around the globe. Our proposed symposium brings together four papers attempting to explore local dynamics and to set governance parameters for local sexual harassment policies. It is our hope that this research will assist researchers and policy makers to reimagine the rules and structures surrounding responses to sexual harassment in various contexts.
