Abstract

Abstract This paper examines the effects of transcultural settings on human sexuality and sexual dysfunction, as well as suggests a more appropriate model for future clinical assessment, treatment and research. Present clinical problems seen in the National Health Service suggest that the need for such an approach is not only important but urgent. Existing models of transcultural psychiatry and psychology are reviewed, as are current thoughts about sexuality in a changing world. The treatment of 29 Asian couples seen with sexual dysfunction in East London is examined. Suggestions are made as to the procedures required for the present and future clinical needs for ethnic minorities experiencing sexual dysfunction.
