Abstract

Tiktok is one of the technological advancements that paves way on how people interact and communicate with each other. Like other platforms sexism is still rampant on this social media platform. From this, the study was conducted to investigate the sexist languages on the contents of the most followed Pinay Tiktokerists and forwarded implications derived from their contents. This research employed a combination of qualitative research method and quantitative research method. The data gathered were gathered from the contents of the four most followed Pinay Tiktokerists from year 2020 to 2022: Niana Guerero, Sanya Lopez, Andrea Brillantes and Zendee. The selection of these content creators was based on the number of their followers. The study was framed on the theory of Henley (2002) which categorized sexist languages into language that defines women narrowly, language that ignores women, and language that depreciates a woman. The study considered 505 sexist comments on the contents of the most followed Pinay Tiktokerists. The results show that majority (39.01%) of the sexist languages are classified as language that defines women narrowly. This is followed by language that depreciates a woman (37.03%) and language that ignores women (11.09%). Interestingly, there were also forms of sexist languages which are not classified in the framework of Henley. The research recommends that content creators should be aware with these sexist languages used by netizens at the same time netizens should be knowledgeable with Gender Fair Languages suitable to comment in the platform.
