Abstract
The SW pine tip moth, Rhyacionia neomexicana (Dyar), is an economically important pest of ponderosa pine, Pimis ponderosa Laws., in the SW. Larvae feed in the new, expanding shoots of both natural and plantation pine seedlings. In heavily infested areas, young trees may be attacked the same year they are planted. Repeated killing of the terminal and lateral shoots deforms the main stem and reduces height growth.
