Abstract

The Archive of the Crown of Aragon preserves hundreds of lawsuits that fell under the royal jurisdiction during the 14th and 15th centuries. Among these, a wide sample of sexual crimes and other related crimes are selected and edited in this work: adultery, statutory rape, rape, prostitution, incest, assaults, abductions, attempted poisonings, homicides and murders. The selection, in this case, has been oriented towards protagonists who were not great characters, but more or less ordinary people. The selection is based on their historical and narrative interest, i.e. because the events and their protagonists are well characterised and it is possible to get a close look at their psychological portrait. The trials involving members of the nobility have not been taken into consideration, with the exception of that of Isabel Cornell, because other considerations of a political or social nature of greater significance may be involved.
