Abstract

In most mammals, XX and XO individuals develop as phenotypic females, XY and XXY individuals as males. However, in mice as in other mammals [2], a number of abnormal genetic situations are known in which phenotypic sex and chromosomal sex are not concordant; these are often associated with various types of intersexual development. A comprehensive review of the occurrence of XY females and XX males in the mouse has recently been published by Eicher [10].
