Abstract

In this foreword, the editors of this special issue describe recent developments in the law pertaining to sex offenders and summarize the articles in the issue. These articles analyze sex offender law in its historical context, the science of sex offenders (including risk assessment, treatment, and prevention), legal theory relating to sex offender law, evidentiary and remedial issues, and policy issues. The editors conclude with a discussion of the significance of these articles and of the special issue to policymakers, lawyers, clinicians, administrators, and the public.
