Abstract

Although the Soviet regime is proud of its considerable efforts to bring women into the labor force on an equalfooting with men, it publishes virtually no statistics which shed light directly on the extent to which sex differences in earnings still exist. This article examines some unpublished survey data which not only document the magnitude of these differences, but which also allow us to test some common hypotheses concerning factors giving rise to them.
