Abstract

Sexually experienced male mice prefer the odor of estrous females to that of diestrous females, while sexually naive males show no preference. Further preference tests using urine and several genital organs as odor sources showed that the vaginal smear or vaginal tissue from estrous females contain attractant(s) for experienced males. Smearing of vaginal discharge on the perigenital skin of diestrous females enhances mounting behavior of experienced males.
