Abstract

Group A beta hemolytic streptococcus (GAS) commonly causes pharyngitis. Antibiotics are used to treat these infections to prevent the development of rheumatic fever. A 4-year old male developed multiple organ system failure, including a life-threatening pulmonary hemorrhage. Blood, urine, and throat cultures were positive for GAS.
