Abstract

Pain in older people with severe cognitive impairment is often under-diagnosed and under-treated. In an effort to overcome this problem a variety of observational tools have been developed to assess pain. These tools focus on the assessment of non-verbal behaviours such as facial expression, moaning, changes in social behaviour or sleeping pattern.
