Abstract

BRONCHOSPASM CAN be potentially one of the most life-threatening intraoperative respiratory complications. Airway hyperreactivity and parasympathetic overactivity can trigger bronchoconstriction and airway obstruction.1 The incidence of intraoperative bronchospasm is quite low (approximately 1.7%).2 In general, it occurs most commonly after induction of general anesthesia. Fulminant bronchospasm during cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is even more rare, with only a handful of case reports in the literature.
