Abstract

Commitment is a key factor in determining how an organisation performs. It can provide employees with the motivation and energy necessary to overcome obstacles and achieve apparently impossible goals. Furthermore, true commitment offers a sustainable competitive advantage because it is difficult to imitate. This paper examines how this commitment can be created within a project management environment, drawing upon the lessons offered by high commitment situations such as crisis management, religious cults, military and political associations. Seven key features of producing commitment have been identified and their use within a project management environment has been proposed via a time frame model.
