Abstract

Vehicular environments are significantly limited by their connectivity, and physical addressing solutions are unable to cope with the increasing challenge of enabling efficient network access. Information-centric networking is poised as an alternative capable of enabling efficient communication in highly-mobile vehicular environments. In this work, we present a service-based system architecture for Information-Centric Networking named SEVeN. In the face of an increasing application space, we consider the challenges relating to coexistence and network resource limitation. The proposed model is designed to enable service exchange and service management in highly competitive vehicular ad-hoc networks. SEVeN is accompanied by a purpose-defined naming policy and service sublayer as well as a service prioritization policy named LBD. We perform a series of simulation-based performance evaluations that denote the benefits of service management and class-based service prioritization.
