Abstract

The broadside settling of discs along the centerline of a fluid-filled tube is studied. The Stokes equation is solved by a method of eigenfunction expansions and collocation. Depending on the geometry, the flow field shows different arrangements of recirculating eddies. Due to mutual shielding, the discs settle faster when they are closer together.
