Abstract

House-dust is a mixture of particles that can become airborne, and mite ismost important allergen producer in it. Management of mites should include killing of mites, and removal of allergens. For these purposes acaricides are on the market. The aim of this study concerns the amount/distribution of airborne particles before and after the use of an acaricidal cleaning foam. Airborne dust from a mattress was measured by using an Andersen sampler. In one case the mattress was treated, in the other no treatment took place. After 1 week the mattress was vacuumed. The treated mattress showed a lower amount of airborne dust. This may indicate that treatment with the agent is able to bind dust, and reduce the take-off of allergens too. Also, these bigger particles were more easily removed by vacuum cleaning. For this reason the agent can be used effectively in the management of mite allergens.
