Abstract

When we are interested in studying several objects at the same time, we may put these objects into a set. Some of the most commonly used sets in mathematics are the following sets of numbers. \(\mathbb {N}\) is the set of natural numbers (positive integers); \(\mathbb {Z}\) is the set of integers (natural numbers, their negatives, and zero); \(\mathbb {Q}\) is the set of rational numbers (positive and negative fractions and zero); \(\mathbb {R}\) is the set of real numbers (finite and infinite decimals); and \(\mathbb {C}\) is the set of complex numbers (real numbers, imaginary numbers, and their sums).
