Abstract
In Samaritan literature Adam is highly praised. The real reason for giving Adam the privilege of possessing this divine light was, however, that he was the first in the generation which led to Moses. Before Adam's repentance after his fall, Cain and Abel were born, but neither possessed Adam's image nor the ray of his light. Unlike Cain's children the children of Seth were children of light. This points clearly to the importance of Seth's generation. It is called a chain of purity. According to Samaritan texts, Seth was simply one link in a chain from Adam to Moses, but this does not mean that nothing of special importance is said about him. Seth plays a very important part in the chain from Adam to Moses and the coming Taheb. It is known, for example, that Seth built the city of Damascus. Keywords: Abel; Adam; Cain; chain of purity; city of Damascus; Moses; Samaritan literature; Seth; Taheb
