Abstract

Seth Berkley, President and founder of the International AIDS Vaccine Initiative (IAVI), received his medical degree in 1981 from Brown University in Rhode Island, USA, and trained in internal medicine at Harvard University. Before founding IAVI, he was associate director of the Health Sciences Division at The Rockefeller Foundation in New York City. He also worked for the Center for Infectious Diseases division of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Massachusetts Department of Public Health, and for the Carter Center, where he was assigned as an epidemiologist at the Ministry of Health in Uganda.
