Abstract

Temperature, along with pressure, is the most important parameter that governs the behavior of rock material. Deep in the Earth, the temperature field is controlled by the outflow of heat from depth. Thus, the Temperature is stable and does not vary much locally. But in the shallow subsurface, temperature may be substantially disturbed.
