Abstract
Four sesquiterpenes have been isolated from the hydrocarbon fraction of Patchouli (Pogostemon cablin) essential oil using column chromatography. The structure formulae of the compounds, α-guaiene, α-bulnesene, α-patchoulene and seychellene were determined using one and two dimensional NMR and GC/MS. Such results will be useful in the structure determination of sesquiterpenic compounds having guaiane, seychellane and patchoulane skeletons.
