Services of University Libraries for the Support of Scientific Communication

Abstract

The aim of the article is to study and compare library services related to the use of digital tools that support communication between researchers at all stages of their scientific activity, in the libraries of leading universities of the world and Ukraine.Research methodology. In order to achieve the aim, an analysis of available information on the services, their forms and issue-related dimensions available on official libraries sites were made. According to QS World University 2018, the leading university libraries of the world and Ukraine were selected for the analysis.Results. The author determines the main differences in subject-matter coverage of services in Ukraine and in the world. Thus, on the websites of Ukrainian university libraries there is no information about services for working with tools for managing research data and preparing for the research, and in the world university libraries these topics are the most popular. At the same time, more attention is paid to the tools for evaluating research in the university libraries of Ukraine than in the world university libraries.Novelty. An attempt is made to conduct a study of the introduction of new library services in Ukraine on the use of digital tools for scientific communication, with a subsequent comparison of these services with the world-wide experience.The practical significance. Based on the experience of organizing work with digital resources to provide all stages of scientific activity in the leading university libraries of the world, academic libraries in Ukraine will be able to form the main benchmarks for the organization of more efficient customer service in support of the process of scientific research.Keywords: university library, library services, digital tools, scientific communication.
