Abstract

This article is based on the keynote address that initiated the American Rehabilitation Counseling Association symposium on psychosocial aspects of rehabilitation, which was held at the American Counseling Association annual conference on March 24, 2002, in New Orleans. It lays philosophical groundwork regarding the provision of human services to our fellows generally and to those provided to people with disabilities in particular. In addition, it features issues raised by the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks on U.S. soil.
