Abstract

A key strategy to design novel bond coating of advanced environmental barrier coatings (EBC) focuses on enhancing its service temperature. The SiO2-HfO2/Y0.5Yb1.5Si2O7 EBC system consists of the novel SiO2-HfO2 composite bond coating using electron beam-physical vapor deposition and Y0.5Yb1.5Si2O7 top coating with atmospheric plasma spraying. EBC was exposed to steam environments at ultra-high temperature of 1475 °C. Microstructure and service performance of EBC after exposure to steam environment were systematically analyzed. The results show that the novel EBC improves the service temperature of EBC and effectively protects SiC substrate, which is a promising candidate for EBC enhancing the service temperature.
