Abstract

With the view to implement a high bit rate wireless communication system at millimeter waves in a realistic scenario, the problem of evaluating the suitability both of multicarrier (MC) and single carrier (SC) schemes is considered. The paper follows the analysis of C-OFDM systems and aims at comparing their performance with SC transmission. In this regard the combined use of adaptive antennas and decision feedback equalization (DFE) is proposed and analyzed in a realistic propagation scenario at millimeter waves. The joint antennas and DFE scheme can be viewed as a spatial-enhanced DFE, with one forward filter for each antenna, and a single feedback filter. This achieves better performance with respect to the cascade of narrowband adaptive antenna and DFE, since it combines the beamforming capability of the former with the equalization properties of the latter, with great advantages especially when rays arrive from similar angles. Service availability through coverage evaluation is developed.
