Abstract

Background: It is well known that serum uric acid (SUA) can increase the risk of hypertension, diabetes, renal diseases, obesity and dyslipidemia. However, its independent association with the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) is controversial. Objectives: the aim of the present study was to evaluate an independent association of SUA with CVD risk Methods: Human subjects (n=502) with/without hyperuricemia along with CVD, hypertension and/or diabetes were enrolled. Serum was used to measure the concentration of clinically important biochemical parameters including SUA. Result: Low density lipoprotein cholesterol (p<0.001), high density lipoprotein cholesterol (p=0.018) and triglycerides (p=0.028) were significantly different among normouricemia and hyperuricemia group. SUA levels were significantly different among CVD phenotypes.
