Abstract

Fluctuations in the serum proteins with the menstrual cycle have been observed in the baboon by Cohen (1949, 1950). Changes in the electrophoretic pattern of the serum proteins in rats after injection of oestrone or progesterone (Hoch-Ligeti & Irvine, 1954), and in rabbits, treated with oestrone (Schuck & Blasius, 1955) have also been reported. The action of male hormones in this respect has been investigated by Leathem (1948), who observed an increase in the serum globulins in the castrated rat, and by Hoch-Ligeti & Irvine (1954), who found that testosterone caused an increase in the albumin in the female and in the alpha1 globulins in male rats.
