Abstract

To the Editor: Looking for reliable biochemical markers to estimate brain damage in epilepsy and neurologic diseases, we followed with interest the publications of Rabinowicz et al. [1,2] and DeGiorgio et al. [3] concerning neuron-specific enolase (NSE) in epilepsy. In contrast to the widely accepted value of NSE in CSF to estimate ongoing brain damage, the value of serum NSE (s-NSE) is controversial. [4,5] The recent paper by DeGiorgio et al. [3] stressed the value of in status epilepticus.
