Serum lipids and IL-6 concentration in rats fed with high protein diet after sibutramine treatment

Abstract

Background and Aims : Diabetes mellitus is a chronic condition characterized by a disturbance in carbohydrates metabolism,fats and proteins. High Protein Diet is associated with a change in carbohydrate metabolism observed in Diabetes. Sibutramine is a nor adrenaline and serotonin reuptake inhibitor that has beneficial effects on serum lipoproteins. Interleukin 6 (IL-6) is an interleukin that acts as both a pro-inflammatory cytokine and an anti-inflammatory myokine. Studies in experimental animals indicate that IL-6 in the Central Nervous System partly mediates the suppression of food intake and body weight.
