Abstract
En el siglo xix España está consolidando su identidad nacional y para ello se sirve de personalidades que desempeñaron un importante papel en su pasado más remoto. Así ocurre con Quinto Sertorio, un brillante general romano que se opuso a la dictadura de Sila. En este artículo se analiza la figura de Sertorio en el siglo XIX. Comenzamos revisando su imagen en las fuentes clásicas, después en las Historias de España más leídas esta centuria, para terminar con Sertorio como exemplum retórico en la oratoria parlamentaria y como héroe en los libros de escuela.
