Abstract

SERS of 4-cyanopyridine adsorbed on Ag atoms on Pt electrode surfaces were investigated. Substrates used were a polycrystalline Pt and a single crystal Pt(111) electrode surfaces. Those surfaces were also characterized by the electrochemical method. On the monolayer Ag on polycrystalline Pt surface, it turned out that the electromagnetic effect is not fully excluded from the SERS. The Pt(111) surface, on the other hand, was uniformly coated with a Ag monolayer and a suitable ORC treatment revealed SERS which gained its intensity only from the chemical effect. The influence of the substrate Pt metal to the adsorption state was clearly observed.
