Abstract
During the last decade, Serratia marcescens has become an important bacterial pathogen in the debilitated patient. This organism has been shown to cause infections in most organ systems. 1 It has not, to our knowledge, been found as a cause of cellulitis in unbroken skin. We report a unique case of cellulitis developing in areas of unbroken skin in a patient with S marcescens bacteremia. Report of a Case A 51-year-old nondiabetic man was admitted for the third time to the Hershey (Penn) Medical Center with increasing dyspnea. He was admitted initially in 1970 with dyspnea, and in 1972 after cardiac catheterization, idiopathic cardiomyopathy was diagnosed. He was readmitted in July
