Abstract

During the last decade, Serratia marcescens has become an important bacterial pathogen in the debilitated patient. This organism has been shown to cause infections in most organ systems. 1 It has not, to our knowledge, been found as a cause of cellulitis in unbroken skin. We report a unique case of cellulitis developing in areas of unbroken skin in a patient with S marcescens bacteremia. Report of a Case A 51-year-old nondiabetic man was admitted for the third time to the Hershey (Penn) Medical Center with increasing dyspnea.
