Abstract
Taenia soliumCysticercosis affects millions of people worldwide and is a cause of epilepsy and death in endemic countries such as Peru; however, the levelsof contagion are not known in several regions. The objective of this research was to determine the seroprevalence, using the Western blot technique, and risk factors for cysticercosis due to T. soliumin residents who raise pigs in the district of Mache, Otuzco, La Libertad, Peru, between January and April 2022. This descriptive-cross-sectional research was carried out on a total of 70 blood sera analyzed to detect anti-Cysticercus cellulosaeIgG antibodies using the Cystiblot kit. A general seroprevalence of 12.8% (9/70) was found and a statistically significant association (p<0.05) with non-potable water cinsumed. In conclusion, 12.8% of Mache residents who raise pigs have been exposed to T. solium infection. The data can be useful to strengthen public helath interventions in this rural district.
