Abstract

The effects of the concentration of perchloric acid upon the hexose and protein contents of the seromucoid fraction have been investigated in pooled human, horse, beef, dog, rabbit, guinea pig, and rat serums. Changes in acid concentration over the range 0.2–2.5 N, intluenced both the chemical composition and the amount of the fraction. In the range, 0.5–0.7 N, the final concentration of perchloric acid caused negligible alterations in the composition and amount of seromucoid in all species. It is recommended that a final concentration of 0.6 N perchloric acid be employed in the initial precipitation step in the isolation of the seromucoid fraction for all species.
