Abstract

Abstract. A heterogeneity of the Pr1 antigen is demonstrated using dog erythrocytes: Pr1h/Pr1d. Pr1h is human erythrocyte‐specific while Pr1d is also found on dog erythrocytes. Though also the Pr2 antigen is found on dog red cells, it is independent of Pr1d. Pr2 is demonstrated on dog erythrocytes also after papainization while Pr1d is only found on untreated dog erythrocytes. The parallel of Pr1h antigen deficiency and Pr2 antigen increase on dog red cells in comparison with human red cells to human erythrocyte glycoproteins after periodate oxidation in comparison with untreated human red cell glycoproteins is stressed out and discussed.
